Rohit Sharma Receives Padma Shri From President Murmu

Former India captain Rohit Sharma was conferred the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest civilian honours, by President Droupadi Murmu during the Padma Awards ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Tuesday.

Rohit attended the second Civil Investiture Ceremony along with his wife, Ritika Sajdeh, after missing the first ceremony held in May.

The honour adds another milestone to Rohit’s nearly two-decade-long international career. Since making his debut for India in 2007, he has emerged as one of the country’s most successful batters and captains across all formats of the game.

The Indian cricket team shared a video of Rohit receiving the award, describing it as a prestigious honour for one of the game’s greats.

Earlier this year, after the announcement of the award, Rohit said the recognition was a special moment for him and his family and thanked the Government of India and everyone who contributed to his career.

Rohit’s tenure as captain brought major success for Indian cricket. Under his leadership, India ended its ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup in 2024 and followed it up with the Champions Trophy title in 2025, strengthening his legacy as one of India’s most successful white-ball captains.

As a batter, Rohit has scored over 4,300 runs in 67 Tests, more than 11,500 runs in 282 ODIs and over 4,200 runs in T20 Internationals.

While he has retired from Test cricket and T20Is, the veteran opener continues to represent India in the ODI format and remains focused on the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
