Indian fast bowler Renuka Singh Thakur stole the show in the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup semifinal, leading her team to a crushing ten-wicket victory over Bangladesh. Renuka’s exceptional performance, which saw her take 3-10 in the Power-play, was instrumental in restricting Bangladesh to a paltry 80/8.
Renuka credited her success to executing the plans prepared a day before the match, saying, “I am very happy… The idea is to work on the basics. I executed what we prepared yesterday.” Moreover, her impressive display earned her the Player of the Match award and made her the third Indian fast bowler to reach 50 women’s T20I wickets.

Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur praised her bowlers’ dominating performance, saying, “Our bowlers did a great job… Proud of our bowling.” Kaur emphasized the importance of consistency and hard work, adding, “We prepare ourselves very hard in nets so that when we go out there, we don’t feel pressure.”
Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana rued her team’s poor batting performance, saying, “We couldn’t understand what we wanted… Losing too many wickets in the powerplay hurt.” Sultana acknowledged the need for improvement ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup in October, stating, “We need to work on our batting… We will try and rectify our mistakes.”
India will now face either Pakistan or Sri Lanka in the Women’s Asia Cup final, seeking their ninth title in the tournament.
