Punjab Kings delivered an impressive batting display to post 222/4 in their allotted 20 overs against Rajasthan Royals in Match 40 of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
Prabhsimran Singh played a key role in structuring the innings, stepping in after a lively start and ensuring stability through the middle phase. The team adopted an attacking approach from the outset, even against the pace threat of Jofra Archer, with early boundaries signalling intent.
Priyansh Arya provided rapid momentum at the top. He took on Nandre Burger with confidence. He played bold strokes, including a six over the covers that shifted pressure onto the bowlers.
Arya’s brisk innings concluded when Archer claimed his wicket with a sharp delivery, ending an engaging duel. Following this, Prabhsimran assumed control, maintaining a steady scoring rate while continuing to find boundaries at regular intervals. He capitalised on scoring opportunities and ensured the side remained in a strong position by the end of the powerplay overs.
During the middle phase, Prabhsimran continued his attacking approach, handling both seam and spin effectively with well-timed strokes. His innings featured confident hits down the ground and towards the leg side.
Wickets fell at intervals as Yash Punja made crucial inroads, including removing Cooper Connolly with a cleverly delivered googly.
Despite the setbacks, Prabhsimran anchored the innings and reached his half-century with determination.
After Prabhsimran departed for 59, Marcus Stoinis took charge of the closing overs. Partnering briefly with captain Shreyas Iyer, he accelerated the scoring dramatically in the final stages.
Stoinis unleashed a flurry of boundaries and sixes, particularly targeting Archer and Brijesh Sharma. His unbeaten 62 off just 22 balls provided the finishing touch, lifting Punjab Kings well beyond the 200-run mark.
Rajasthan Royals managed to apply some control in the middle overs through disciplined bowling spells. Ravindra Jadeja and others maintained tight lines, while Punja ended with two wickets to his name. The late assault from Stoinis proved decisive, pushing the Punjab Kings to a daunting total.
Punjab Kings 222/4 in 20 overs (Marcus Stoinis 62*, Prabhsimran Singh 59; Yash Punja 2/41, Jofra Archer 1/40) against Rajasthan Royals.
