BCA president Rakesh Tiwari announced that the President Cup will showcase young cricketers’ red-ball skills in Bihar.
Starting April 1 in Patna, the tournament will expose emerging players to advance their careers.
“This tournament marks a significant step in the Bihar Cricket Association’s efforts to develop cricket in the state. It will allow talented cricketers to display their abilities in red-ball cricket and gain the necessary exposure to progress further,” Tiwari stated.
Tournament Format And Team Selection
The President Cup will follow a two- or three-day match format, featuring eight teams divided into two groups.
Players from various districts across Bihar will form these teams, ensuring broad participation and fair representation.
BCA Launches ‘Search for Bowlers’ Initiative
Alongside the President Cup, BCA has introduced a new initiative, ‘Search for Bowlers’, to discover and develop young fast and spin bowlers across Bihar.
This program targets cricketers aged 16 to 25, providing them with a professional training platform.
BCA’s Anand Yalvigi will work with ex-cricketers Venkatapathy Raju and Salil Ankola to scout bowling talent.
Venkatapathy Raju, a former India left-arm spinner, has vast coaching experience, having served on various coaching panels. Salil Ankola, who played 20 ODIs for India and claimed 13 wickets, will also play a crucial role in mentoring young bowlers.
Talent Identification Camp Scheduled For May
The ‘Search for Bowlers’ initiative will begin with a talent identification camp at Patna’s Moin-ul-Haq Stadium from May 2 to May 7.
During this camp, local selectors and coaches will conduct an initial screening under the supervision of the cricket director.
Two former Test cricketers, both of whom have served as national selectors, will evaluate the shortlisted candidates in the final stage.
BCA selectors will pick 10 fast bowlers and 10 spinners for monitored training ahead of state selection.
