Political Rivals Unite At Dharamshala Stadium
Despite their political differences, leaders from both the Congress and BJP came together to enjoy a Cricket World Cup match between India and New Zealand at the picturesque Dharamshala stadium. Among the notable attendees were BJP’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Anurag Thakur, and Congress leader and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu. They were joined by state Industries Minister Harshvardhan, BJP’s national president J.P. Nadda, and the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, Jai Ram Thakur.
Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr. Rajiv Bindal and several other Congress legislators also witnessed the match from the ground.
The heartwarming scene saw Mr. Sukhu sitting between J.P. Nadda and Anurag Thakur in the VVIP stands, emphasizing the spirit of unity. The Chief Minister was even seen holding Anurag Thakur’s hand, symbolizing a moment of solidarity.
The event wasn’t just about politics; it also showcased the nation’s enthusiasm for cricket. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, and Himachal Pradesh State Tourism Corporation Chairman Raghubir Singh Bali were present at the event.
While the political leaders savored the breathtaking surroundings of the stadium, India had an eventful day on the field. They dropped three catches, and Kuldeep Yadav, despite being the most expensive bowler with figures of 2/73, managed to take crucial wickets. Daryl Mitchell played a brave inning, scoring a century for New Zealand. However, India’s pacer, Mohammed Shami, put on a spectacular performance with a five-wicket haul in his first game of the World Cup, restricting New Zealand to a total of 273 runs.
