Jammu & Kashmir Outplay Karnataka in Memorable Final
Jammu & Kashmir scripted history by claiming their first Ranji Trophy title after dominating eight-time champions Karnataka in the final at Hubli.
The match ended in a draw, but Jammu & Kashmir secured the championship by virtue of a commanding 291-run first-innings lead.
After electing to bat, the team laid a solid foundation with a historic century from Shubham Pundir, who became the first player from the state to score a hundred in a Ranji final. Strong contributions from Yawer Hassan, Abdul Samad and captain Paras Dogra powered Jammu & Kashmir to a formidable total of 584 in their first innings.
Despite a fighting century from Karnataka skipper Mayank Agarwal, Jammu & Kashmir’s bowlers, led by Auqib Nabi Dar’s five-wicket haul, dismissed their opponents for 293, gaining a decisive advantage.
In the second innings, Qamran Iqbal produced a magnificent 160, while Sahil Lotra struck his maiden first-class century to guide the team to 342/4 before declaration. With the lead extending beyond 600 runs, the result was beyond doubt.
After 67 years of participation in India’s premier domestic tournament, Jammu & Kashmir finally lifted the coveted trophy, marking a defining chapter in the region’s cricketing history.
