PBKS Opt To Bowl Against CSK After Winning Toss In IPL 2026 Clash

Punjab Kings (PBKS) won the toss and opted to bowl against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday.

PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer said uncertainty over the pitch influenced his decision, as it was CSK’s first home game of the season. He further added that the team wanted to assess conditions before setting a target.

Addressing concerns over his hand injury, Iyer struck a positive note, saying he preferred to focus on recovery and maintain a constructive mindset. He also expressed confidence in the team’s momentum following their previous outing and emphasised the importance of playing to their full potential.

Speaking about his batting approach, Iyer said he had adopted a more aggressive mindset, particularly in pressure situations, and intended to continue with the same approach this season. He also pointed out that the increasing power-hitting ability across the squad had boosted overall confidence. PBKS fielded an unchanged XI.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad said he was comfortable batting first, observing that the pitch appeared slightly dry and was unlikely to change significantly over the course of the match. He further added that early-season conditions could still bring dew into play, making it important to put runs on the board.

Reflecting on the team’s previous defeat to Rajasthan Royals, Gaikwad said the side had moved on and was focused on improving. He stressed the importance of taking a game-by-game approach and maintaining consistency at the top of the order.

Gaikwad also highlighted the value of strong opening partnerships, noting their contribution to CSK’s success. He confirmed one change in the playing XI, with Prashant Veer replacing Matt Short.
