New Zealand produced a flawless display to defeat the UAE by 10 wickets in their Group D encounter of the T20 World Cup 2026 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. The team wrapped up the chase swiftly, reaching the target in just 15.2 overs.
Tim Seifert and Finn Allen set the tone early, attacking the UAE bowlers from the outset. The pair scored freely, rotating strike effectively and punishing loose deliveries to keep the required run rate well under control.
Seifert anchored the innings with an unbeaten 89 from 42 balls, smashing three sixes and 12 boundaries. Allen also complemented him perfectly, remaining not out on 84 off 50 deliveries, which included five fours and five sixes. Their unbroken partnership ensured there were no hiccups in the chase.
Earlier in the day, the UAE opted to bat first after winning the toss and managed to put up 173 for six. The innings began poorly as Aryansh Sharma departed early, leaving the side under pressure.
Captain Muhammad Waseem then rebuilt the innings alongside Alishan Sharafu. The duo added 107 runs for the second wicket, providing stability and momentum. Sharafu scored 55 from 47 balls, striking two sixes and five fours.
Waseem continued to lead from the front and later shared a 40-run partnership with Mayank Kumar for the fourth wicket. Mayank contributed a quick 21 off 12 balls before being dismissed, while Waseem stayed unbeaten on 66 from 45 deliveries, hitting three sixes and four fours.
New Zealand’s bowling effort was led by Matt Henry, who finished with figures of two for 37 from four overs. Jacob Duffy, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Santner, and Glenn Phillips chipped in with a wicket each.
Tim Seifert earned the Player of the Match award for his decisive unbeaten knock.
