New Zealand cricketer Colin Munro has announced his retirement from international cricket after a career spanning 123 matches.
Munro, known for his prowess in white-ball cricket, expressed his pride in representing the BLACKCAPS. He acknowledged the significance of donning the jersey on numerous occasions across all formats.
Despite harboring hopes of making a comeback for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Munro, aged 37, missed out on selection and chose to formalize his exit from international cricket.
In a statement released by New Zealand Cricket, Munro remarked, “Playing for the BLACKCAPS has always been the biggest achievement in my playing career. I never felt prouder than donning that jersey. The fact that I’ve been able to do that 123 times across all formats is something I will always be incredibly proud of.”
While bidding farewell to the international stage, Munro affirmed his commitment to continuing his cricketing journey through franchise cricket worldwide.
During his tenure, Munro exhibited his batting prowess in 65 T20Is, 57 ODIs, and a solitary Test match, amassing over 3,000 runs and claiming seven wickets.
Notably, he leaves as New Zealand’s sixth all-time leading T20I run-scorer with 1,724 runs at an impressive average of 31 and a striking rate of 156.4, including three centuries.
Having debuted internationally during the 2012-13 tour of South Africa, Munro evolved into a stalwart of New Zealand’s white-ball cricket, featuring prominently in T20Is and ODIs from 2016 to 2019.
He also represented the country in major tournaments such as the T20 World Cups in 2014 and 2016, as well as the 2019 ODI World Cup in England.
As Munro steps away from international cricket, New Zealand Cricket extends its gratitude for his remarkable contributions and wishes him success in his future endeavors.
