New Zealand batter Daryl Mitchell has moved to the summit of the ICC men’s ODI batting rankings, overtaking India’s Virat Kohli after a prolific series against India. Mitchell now leads the list with 845 rating points, while Kohli has dropped to second place with 795 points.
Both batters remain comfortably ahead of the rest, with Afghanistan’s Ibrahim Zadran, India’s Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, and Pakistan captain Babar Azam trailing behind in the standings.
Mitchell has reached the No 1 position for the second time in his ODI career. His earlier stint at the top was brief, lasting just three days in November before Rohit Sharma edged past him. This latest rise, however, comes on the back of dominant performances that played a decisive role in New Zealand’s series success.
The right-hander now owns four ODI centuries against India, leaving him just one short of AB de Villiers among South African players with the most hundreds against the Indian side.
His consecutive scores above 130 also draw him level with Martin Guptill for the most such innings by a New Zealand batter in ODIs.
Batting Rankings Witness Further Changes
Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran climbed to third place with 764 points, moving ahead of former India skipper Rohit Sharma, who slipped to fourth on 757 points. With Mitchell and Kohli firmly occupying the top two spots, competition among the remaining contenders continues to intensify.
Glenn Phillips recorded a sharp rise after his standout performance in the series decider at Indore.
Phillips smashed 106 from 88 deliveries and combined with Mitchell for a 219-run stand, the second-highest ODI partnership in New Zealand’s history. His efforts lifted him 16 places to 20th in the ODI batting rankings.
Phillips also progressed in the all-rounders’ list, jumping 14 positions to joint 31st, although Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai continues to hold the top spot.
Among bowlers, New Zealand’s Michael Bracewell made significant gains, advancing six places to 33rd following consistent displays in the opening two matches of the India series.
The top of the ODI bowling rankings remains unchanged, with Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan leading on 710 points ahead of England pacer Jofra Archer on 670.
Rashid Khan also improved his standing in the T20I bowler rankings, climbing two places to second after a two-wicket haul against the West Indies in Dubai. His teammate Mujeeb Ur Rahman moved up two spots to joint 14th, while Ibrahim Zadran rose five places to reach 15th in the latest T20I batting rankings.
