
In the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (‘The World is One Family’) and Atithi Devo Bhava (‘The Guest is Like God’), India proudly hosted the World Para Athletics Championship 2025 in New Delhi.
Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) delivered a flawless international event that reflected the nation’s warmth, discipline, and organisational excellence.
The championship saw participation from over 100 nations, featuring 186 events across multiple categories.
India’s 73 para-athletes created history with a record haul of 22 medals, 6 gold, 9 silver, and 7 bronze, cementing India’s rising dominance in para-sports. This achievement was not merely a sporting victory but a powerful statement of resilience, determination, and inclusivity.
India’s impeccable management and hospitality earned widespread global praise.
Over 500 volunteers, including members of the NCC, sports and medical students, and personnel from the armed forces and NDRF, contributed to the event’s success.
Their dedication ensured smooth coordination, while athletes and coaches from around the world appreciated the top-tier facilities and heartfelt Indian hospitality.
Visionary Leadership and Collaboration
Under the leadership of Shri Devendra Jhajharia, President of PCI, and Shri Satya Babu, Director of PCI and President of the South Asia Paralympic Committee, the championship set a new global benchmark for sporting events.
The coordinated efforts of the Sports Authority of India (SAI), the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Government of NCT Delhi ensured the championship’s historic success.
Kreeda Bharati played a pivotal role, mobilising over 500 volunteers who served from September 27 to October 5, 2025.
Their contribution echoed the national vision of ‘Healthy India, Strong India – Fit India, Hit India’. By supporting para-athletes and encouraging sports participation across communities, Kreeda Bharati reinforced the idea that sports build character, and character builds a nation.
The event marks a decisive step in India’s journey toward becoming a global leader in sports, strengthening the nation’s aspirations to host future international competitions, including the Olympic Games.
