India continued to dominate the first Test as Sri Lanka reached 175/6 after 67 overs at lunch on the fifth day at Galle International Stadium on Wednesday.
Jadeja and Prasidh Krishna provided India with crucial breakthroughs during a session in which Sri Lanka managed 91 runs from 33 overs.
Sri Lanka initially frustrated India through a determined 95-run stand between captain Dhananjaya de Silva and Sonal Dinusha.
The batters combined caution with aggression to survive the first 90 minutes on a pitch producing inconsistent bounce.
De Silva brought up his fifty by finding the boundary through point off Jadeja. Dinusha followed him to the milestone by launching Kuldeep Yadav over deep midwicket for six.
India eventually separated the pair when Jadeja generated sharp turn and bounce from a fuller delivery directed towards the stumps.
De Silva attempted to sweep the ball but produced a top edge, allowing Manav Suthar to take the catch at short fine leg and end his innings at 59.
India then struck again through Prasidh Krishna, who sent Niroshan Dickwella back for 10.
The wicketkeeper-batter failed to establish himself at the crease before Krishna induced an edge from a back-of-a-length delivery outside the leg stump.
Rishabh Pant completed the dismissal behind the stumps as Sri Lanka lost their sixth wicket.
Keshara Nuwantha joined Dinusha at the crease and helped Sri Lanka survive the remaining overs before the lunch break.
Dinusha remained unbeaten on 65 as Sri Lanka moved to 175/6, leaving India 197 runs ahead.
India will receive the new ball after another 13 overs and will look to use the opportunity to wrap up the match during the afternoon session.
