Ishan Kishan was given a fantastic opportunity in India’s final Test innings of the West Indies trip after two missed chances. And when India chose to bat Ishan at No. 4 in the second Test in Trinidad instead of the more seasoned Virat Kohli, the youngster repaid the team’s faith with lightning-quick innings on the way to a first-ever half-century. Ishan shared the conversation with Rishabh Pant that led to his score of 52 off 34, which enabled India to set a lofty goal of 365 for the host team.

Rishab Pant’s words help Ishan Kishan improve his game

As in the WTC final last month and the Border-Gavaskar series at home earlier this year, Pant could have served as India’s wicketkeeper-batter during the Test series. However, a terrible vehicle accident forced Pant to sit out the game. Even though he is recovering and has made considerable progress, he will probably miss the rest of 2023.

Ishan saves Team India

In his absence, Ishan served as the backup for KS Bharat during the home series and the WTC final against Australia until the management decided to award Ishan his debut cap for the West Indies tour. He was given the opportunity to bat in a Test during the first match of the series in Dominica before India declared, and he later got out for 25 off 37 in the first innings of the second Test.

Ishan was dispatched ahead of Kohli in the match’s last innings, and the young batsman carried on the momentum started by the openers by smashing four boundaries and two sixes in his unbroken fifty-two to help India reach 181 for two on Day 4.
