Several former cricket players reacted to the selection and blasted the selectors for not taking into account results on the domestic circuit. After the announcement, Irfan Pathan, a former all-rounder for India, tweeted a mysterious tweet, and fans have connected it to Sarfaraz Khan.

After posting a Hindi song, Pathan requested his followers to pick a cricketer who springs to mind while listening to the song. “I know the answer and have spoken about him before, but I would love to hear from you guys,” the caption stated of the tweet stated.

Fans immediately deduced that Pathan was referring to Sarfaraz Khan. Fans began to post their own speculations because the ex-cricketer would not offer any confirmation.
