Gujarat Titans recorded a commanding eight-wicket victory against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, completing the chase of 159 with 20 deliveries remaining.
Gujarat approached the chase with intent despite Chennai’s disciplined start. Shubman Gill played fluently, striking three sixes in his 33 off 23 balls, while Sai Sudharsan provided solid support as the pair built a quick opening stand.
The Titans advanced to 55 without loss in the Power-play before Noor Ahmad dismissed Gill through a sharp stumping by Sanju Samson.
Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler took control of the innings and maintained a steady scoring rate. Sudharsan continued his fine run by reaching a half-century in 33 balls and attacked both spin and pace with confidence.
Buttler initially settled in before accelerating and ensuring the chase stayed firmly on track.
The pair built a crucial partnership that put Gujarat firmly ahead, with Sudharsan launching an aggressive assault on Akeal Hosein, clearing the boundary multiple times. Fielding lapses from Chennai further compounded their difficulties as Gujarat capitalised effectively.
Sudharsan’s innings ended at 87 from 46 balls, featuring four fours and seven sixes, after Dewald Brevis completed an excellent catch in the deep. By then, Gujarat had virtually secured the result. Buttler remained unbeaten and finished the match with a straight six.
Earlier, Chennai posted a total of 159 after recovering from early setbacks on a pitch that offered uneven bounce. Their top order struggled initially, but the middle order helped stabilise the innings.
Shivam Dube and Ruturaj Gaikwad added valuable runs through a composed partnership, rotating the strike before increasing the tempo. Dube handled the pace attack effectively to rebuild momentum.
Chennai’s late acceleration proved insufficient against Gujarat’s strong batting display. The Titans once again demonstrated depth and consistency in their top order, completing the chase comfortably.
This victory helped the Gujarat Titans recover after consecutive defeats. The Chennai Super Kings were left reflecting on missed opportunities.
