IPL 2026: Rishabh Pant Penalised For Slow Over-Rate Against CSK

Rishabh Pant, who leads Lucknow Super Giants, received a fine of Rs 12 lakh after his team failed to maintain the required over-rate during Friday’s IPL 2026 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow.

The penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct related to minimum over-rate offences. According to the IPL, it was Lucknow Super Giants’ first such offence of the season.

The match at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium ended in a dominant seven-wicket win for Lucknow Super Giants.

Batting first, Chennai Super Kings scored 187/5, helped by a career-best T20 innings of 71 from Kartik Sharma and an unbeaten 32 by Shivam Dube.

Earlier, fast bowler Akash Singh had damaged CSK’s top order with a three-wicket spell on a pace-friendly red-soil pitch.

In reply, LSG made an aggressive start through a 135-run opening partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis.

Marsh led the chase with a blistering 90 off 38 deliveries, striking nine fours and seven sixes at a strike rate above 236. A run-out denied him a century.

Following quick dismissals of Marsh, Inglis and Abdul Samad, Nicholas Pooran finished the chase in style with 32 runs from 17 balls, including four sixes and a boundary.

LSG completed the target with 20 balls remaining, while the defeat dealt a major blow to CSK’s playoff hopes in the tournament.
