CSK had a strong start after being put in to bat, with Sanju Samson attacking from the first ball.
The team dispatched Nitish Kumar Reddy for a six and added two boundaries in the same over to collect 17 runs. He maintained the aggressive tempo in the next over by striking Praful Hinge for three consecutive fours, ensuring a brisk scoring rate during the Powerplay.
Sunrisers Hyderabad hit back when captain Pat Cummins removed Samson, who edged behind after scoring a quick 27 off 13 balls. Shortly afterwards, Urvil Patel struck two sixes but departed for 13 after Sakib Husain bowled him with a slower delivery.
Following the early setbacks, skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad steadied the innings and built a partnership with Kartik Sharma. Sharma played positively, hitting boundaries and a six to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Cummins returned to dismiss Sharma for 32 and then removed Gaikwad for 15, reaching the milestone of 200 T20 wickets. At the halfway stage, CSK were placed at 91/3.
Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis rebuilt the innings with a valuable stand. Brevis adopted an attacking approach, collecting 18 runs in an over from Nitish Kumar Reddy to push the total beyond 120.
Dube supported well with timely strokes, while Brevis continued to find boundaries, guiding the side to 144/4 after 16 overs.
Eshan Malinga ended Brevis’ innings at 44, bowled in the 18th over. In the following over, Sakib Husain dismissed Dube for 26.
A late contribution from Prashant Veer helped Chennai Super Kings reach a total of 180/7 in 20 overs.
For Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pat Cummins delivered the standout performance with figures of 3/28. Sakib Husain claimed two wickets, while Praful Hinge and Eshan Malinga picked up one each.
