IPL 2026: Kohli, Venkatesh Iyer Power RCB To 222 Against Punjab Kings

Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered an imposing total of 222 for four in 20 overs against Punjab Kings in Match 61 of the IPL 2026 at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala on Sunday, setting a target of 223 runs.

Virat Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer anchored the innings with fluent half-centuries. Their knocks kept RCB firmly on course for a playoff berth.

Punjab Kings skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to field first. In reply, RCB posted 222 runs while losing four wickets in their allotted overs.

Openers Jacob Bethell and Kohli added 21 runs in 14 balls. Bethell further departed for 11 off seven deliveries after hitting two boundaries.

Kohli then stitched together a crucial 76-run partnership with Devdutt Padikkal for the second wicket in 41 balls, taking the total to 97. Padikkal contributed 45 off 25 balls, striking four fours and three sixes.

After Padikkal’s dismissal, Kohli and Venkatesh Iyer consolidated the innings with a 60-run stand for the third wicket in 35 balls, guiding the team to 157. Kohli scored a composed 58 off 37 deliveries, featuring four boundaries and three sixes.

Following the loss of early wickets, Venkatesh Iyer joined forces with Tim David to accelerate the scoring rate. The pair added 65 runs in 30 balls, lifting the total to 222.

David scored a quick 28 off 12 balls. Venkatesh, meanwhile, remained unbeaten on 73 off 40 deliveries and smashed eight fours and four sixes.

For Punjab Kings, Harpreet Brar claimed two wickets, while Yuzvendra Chahal and Arshdeep Singh took one wicket each.

RCB have secured eight wins from 12 matches this season and currently occupy the top position in the standings. Punjab Kings have won six of their 12 matches and currently hold fourth place in the standings. A victory in this fixture would take PBKS to 15 points and move them up to third place.

Punjab Kings, captained by Shreyas Iyer, included Priyansh Arya, Prabhsimran Singh (wicketkeeper), Cooper Connolly, Suryansh Shedge, Shashank Singh, Azmatullah Omarzai, Harpreet Brar, Lockie Ferguson, Arshdeep Singh, and Yuzvendra Chahal in their line-up.
