IPL 2026: KKR Opt To Bat Against GT; Seifert Replaces Allen

In Match 25 of the Indian Premier League 2026, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) won the toss and elected to bat first against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Friday.

Gujarat Titans entered the contest on the back of consecutive wins, while KKR were still searching for their first victory of the season.

KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane confirmed one change to the playing XI, with New Zealand wicketkeeper-batter Tim Seifert replacing Finn Allen.

Ajinkya Rahane said he chose to bat first to allow the batting unit to play with greater freedom. He emphasised the need to move away from over-reliance on data and instead back the team’s instincts to turn their campaign around.

Ajinkya Rahane acknowledged the scrutiny that comes with poor results and noted that criticism is part of a sportsperson’s life. He stressed the importance of confidence, team backing and focusing on strengths.

Rahane further added that T20 cricket often hinges on momentum and small moments, and urged his side to play fearlessly.

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill said his side remained unchanged. He indicated that he would have preferred to bowl first, citing the possibility of dew later in the evening as temperatures rise.

Shubman Gill admitted that a middle-order collapse in the previous match nearly derailed what should have been a comfortable chase. The side lost five wickets between overs 11 and 15.

Gill stressed the importance of executing basics consistently and avoiding unnecessary complications in a format as demanding as T20 cricket.

The pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium will likely favour batters. With straight boundaries measuring around 72 metres and square boundaries at approximately 66 metres, conditions are conducive to stroke play.

Experts noted that while pacers could extract good pace and bounce, assistance for spinners is likely to be limited.
