Lucknow Super Giants registered a competitive total of 203 runs against Chennai Super Kings in the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.
Opener Josh Inglis starred with the bat. He played a destructive innings packed with boundaries to guide his side to a strong score.
Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and opted to bowl first. The decision, however, did not produce the desired early breakthrough as Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh attacked the bowlers from the beginning.
The opening pair added 77 runs in only 31 deliveries to provide Lucknow with a flying start. Mitchell Marsh scored 10 runs from 10 balls, including a six, before losing his wicket.
After Marsh departed, Josh Inglis continued his aggressive approach. He kept the scoreboard moving through brief partnerships with Nicholas Pooran and captain Rishabh Pant.
Pooran managed only one run, while Pant contributed 15 runs before getting dismissed.
Josh Inglis produced one of the most entertaining innings of the season, smashing 85 runs off just 33 deliveries. His explosive knock included six sixes and ten fours before he returned to the pavilion.
Following his dismissal, Lucknow Super Giants lost momentum and suffered a batting collapse. The side lost six wickets for 147 runs, putting pressure on the lower middle order. Akash Singh Raghuvanshi added 18 runs before getting out.
Shahbaz Ahmed and Himmat Singh later stabilised the innings with an important 50-run partnership for the seventh wicket in 32 balls. Their stand helped Lucknow cross the 200-run mark.
Himmat Singh scored 17 runs from 12 deliveries, hitting one six and one boundary during his cameo innings.
For the Chennai Super Kings, Jamie Overton emerged as the most successful bowler with three wickets. Anshul Kamboj picked up two wickets, while Noor Ahmad claimed one dismissal.
Lucknow Super Giants, led by Rishabh Pant, fielded Mitchell Marsh, Josh Inglis, Nicholas Pooran, Aiden Markram, Akash Singh Raghuvanshi, Himmat Singh, Shahbaz Ahmed, Mohammed Shami, Digvesh Singh Rathi, and Prince Yadav.
Chennai Super Kings, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, included Sanju Samson, Urvil Patel, Kartik Sharma, Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube, Jamie Overton, Akeal Hosein, Anshul Kamboj, Noor Ahmad, and Mukesh Choudhary in their playing XI.
