Delhi Capitals pulled off the highest successful chase in IPL history by reaching 216/7 against Punjab Kings at Dharamsala on Monday, chasing 211 with six balls remaining.
Punjab’s bowlers made an ideal start as Arshdeep Singh and Yash Thakur reduced Delhi to 14/2. Abishek Porel was bowled by Thakur, while KL Rahul top-edged a pull shot that was brilliantly caught by Marco Jansen.
Debutant Sahil Parakh briefly counterattacked before falling for 14, leaving Delhi at 38/3.
Captain Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs rebuilt the innings, although Punjab mixed sharp fielding with dropped chances. Stubbs was eventually run out through a direct hit from Cooper Connolly.
Delhi remained under pressure at 138/5 before David Miller changed the momentum.
Axar, who had managed only 44 runs in his previous eight innings this season, struck a 28-ball fifty and attacked Marcus Stoinis and Ben Dwarshuis during a crucial phase.
Miller later smashed two sixes off Jansen before getting out for 51. The chase was then revived by IPL debutant Madhav Tiwari, whose 18 off eight balls proved decisive. Alongside Ashutosh Sharma, he added quick runs in the death overs before Auqib Nabi sealed the victory with a six.
Earlier, Punjab Kings posted 210/5 through unbeaten 59 from Shreyas Iyer and 56 from Priyansh Arya. Madhav Tiwari and Mitchell Starc picked up two wickets each for Delhi.
