MS Dhoni
The commencement of the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just around the corner, with the mini-auction having taken place in Dubai on December 19.
Teams are now actively preparing for the upcoming season, and amidst the anticipation, questions linger about the future of Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) iconic captain, MS Dhoni. Although confirmed to participate in the 2024 season, speculation abounds regarding whether this might be Dhoni’s final stint.
CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan addressed the curiosity surrounding Dhoni’s future, stating, “That I do not know. See, as far as the captain is concerned, he will answer you directly. He does not tell us what he is going to do.” This cryptic response only adds to the intrigue surrounding Dhoni’s potential retirement.
Having undergone knee surgery in early June, Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation. However, the CSK management remains optimistic about his fitness, with Viswanathan mentioning, “He is doing well now. He has started his rehab. He started working in the gym. And, probably in another 10 days he’ll start working in the nets also.”
In their quest to defend the IPL title, CSK engaged in some noteworthy transactions during the Players Auction in Dubai. The MS Dhoni-led side secured the services of six players in total, with New Zealand all-rounder Daryl Mitchell emerging as their most expensive acquisition at Rs 14 crore. Notably, CSK raised eyebrows by securing the uncapped Indian batter Sameer Rizvi for Rs 8.4 crore. Additionally, they retained India all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who was released by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
