Virat Kohli
On Friday, during the final Test against the West Indies, India’s standout batter, Virat Kohli, hit his 29th Test century. When Kohli scored his last Test century abroad in Perth in December 2018, he put an end to an almost five-year drought for an overseas Test century.
76th century for Virat Kohli
In total, Kohli now has 76 international centuries, moving him one record away from Sachin Tendulkar’s stunning 100-tonne mark. And the Master Blaster himself congratulated the 34-year-old great batter as he hit his tonne.
Sachin Tendulkar reacts
Tendulkar, who has frequently referred to his old teammate as his idol, took to his own Instagram profile to express his admiration for him. The former batting champion posted a tale with the caption, “Another day, another century by @virat.kohli. Well done!”
India lost rapid wickets after Kohli arrived at the crease, and his effort was crucial to the team’s recovery in the first innings. After Kohli entered the batting order, Rohit Sharma (80) and Ajinkya Rahane (10) were bowled within four overs of one another because the latter was limited to playing defensively. By the end of the first day, the 34-year-old was still unbeaten on 87 and had formed a 106-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja.
121 for Kohli
The partnership increased by 53 runs the following morning when Kohli scored his 29th century. He was run out on 121 for the third time in his Test career, an anticlimactic climax to his innings.
This was Kohli’s second century in a Test match this year. In March, he hit a magnificent 186 against Australia in Ahmedabad. Kohli has made six centuries in all formats since September 2022, compared to none in the three years before that. The batter had finally broken his century drought during a T20I match against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup. Which ultimately signaled his comeback to form after a protracted slump.

However, Kohli had a chance to add another century to the series but was removed at 76. India defeated the hosts in the Test by an innings-and-141-run margin, and they will be going for a complete sweep in Port of Spain.
