India’s Victory Secured by Shivam Dube Outstanding Comeback Performance

First T20 of the three-match series, India’s fringe players, led by Shivam Dube, secured a convincing six-wicket victory over Afghanistan

In the first T20 of the three-match series, India’s fringe players, led by Shivam Dube, secured a convincing six-wicket victory over Afghanistan. Despite a solid 68-run partnership between Mohammad Nabi and Azmatullah Omarzai, Afghanistan’s total of 158 for five proved insufficient for India in favorable batting conditions.

Dube, in his first T20 appearance since the Asian Games, and Tilak Varma formed a crucial 44-run partnership, setting the stage for India’s successful chase in 17.3 overs. The early loss of openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill due to a mix-up didn’t hinder India’s progress, with Varma and Dube steering the innings forward.

Dube’s efficient use of his long levers, particularly his powerful drives on the off side, showcased his prowess. Jitesh Sharma and Rinku Singh also contributed to India’s win, with Dube finishing the game in style with a straight six and four.

Earlier, Afghanistan faced early setbacks as India’s bowlers, particularly Axar Patel, disrupted their top order. Despite a delayed start due to a distraction around the sightscreen, Arshdeep Singh’s maiden over set the tone. Axar Patel’s figures of 4-0-23-2 stood out, as he played a pivotal role in restricting Afghanistan to 157 for five.

Afghanistan’s Rahamanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, and Rahmat Shah fell early, but Nabi and Omarzai’s partnership revived their innings. Nabi’s aggressive knocks, including back-to-back sixes off Mukesh Kumar, were notable highlights. Najibullah Zadran and Karim Janat added crucial runs, taking Afghanistan past the 150-run mark.

Despite India dropping three catches in chilly conditions, they successfully chased down the target, showcasing the depth of their squad. Yashasvi Jaiswal was unavailable for selection due to a sore right groin.
