With strike bowler Jasprit Bumrah coming home after the pivotal match against Pakistan, Team India suffered a major setback ahead of their match against Nepal in the second round of the 2023 Asia Cup. Rain prevented the players from returning to the pitch after the innings break on Saturday, September 2, in Kandy, where Bumrah was playing in his first ODI for India in more than a year. Bumrah, however, did play a significant part in helping India reach its 266-run total with his bat, hitting 16 runs off 14 balls.

Bumrah has returned home for personal reasons, according to BCCI sources, and will not play against Nepal on Monday, according to a Cricbuzz report. Bumrah will be back before India’s Super Four match against Pakistan on Sunday, September 10. His exact homecoming date is still unknown. Bumrah and his wife, Sanjana Ganesan, have yet to officially declare that they are expecting a child, despite reports to the contrary.

The Men in Blue might not skip Bumrah since India would be playing an associate nation like Nepal, who are competing in their first-ever Asia Cup, and there is a forecast of severe rain. India would be confident in their ability to dominate the opposition since they have a ready-made alternative in veteran pacer Mohammed Shami. However, because the 29-year-old didn’t bowl on Saturday, the team would have liked to see him bowl 10 overs in a match setting before facing Pakistan again.

For India, the rest of the lineup is set to stay the same, with Shami likely to take Bumrah’s position in the starting XI.
If India qualifies, it will be A2 and play its games on September 10, 12, and 15, with Pakistan expected to be the opponent in the first Super Four game as they have already qualified for the next round.
