India’s mixed team displayed remarkable dominance as they booked a place in the quarterfinals of the Badminton Asia Junior Mixed Team Championships, held in Solo, Indonesia.
In a Group D clash on Saturday, India overpowered the United Arab Emirates 110-83 in the innovative relay scoring format.
The win follows a successful opening-day campaign in which India defeated Sri Lanka. With two wins from two matches, India now joins Hong Kong China in the knockout stages. Both undefeated teams will face each other on Sunday to decide the top position in the group.
In the team event, countries compete across ten matches in a relay format to be the first to reach 110 points. India wasted no time asserting dominance, with girls’ singles player Rujula Ramu getting the ball rolling by beating Mysha Khan 11-5.
Mixed doubles duo C Lalramsanga and Taarini Suri then delivered a powerful display and extended India’s lead to 22-11.
India retained control throughout, although the UAE managed to provide some resistance in individual matches. At the halfway mark, India held a healthy 55-41 lead.
US Open finalist Tanvi Sharma showcased her top form once again, comfortably defeating Madhumita Sundarapandian and pushing India further ahead to 66-46.
The consistency in the squad was evident as Lalramsanga returned for the second mixed doubles rubber, this time alongside Reshika U. They easily overcame Adithya Kiran and Mysha Khan 11-5, giving India a commanding 77-51 lead and effectively sealing the contest.
With their quarterfinal berth confirmed, India will look to maintain its form and top Group D with a win over Hong Kong China.
This championship serves as a vital preparatory stage for the BWF Junior World Championships, set to take place later this year at the National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati.
With such strong performances, India’s young shuttlers appear well-prepared for the global stage.
