India Sends 56 Young Boxers To Asian U-15 & U-17 Championship In Jordan

India has dispatched a 56-member youth boxing squad – 30 in the U-15 category and 26 in U-17 – for the Asian U-15 & U-17 Boxing Championships taking place in Amman, Jordan.

This marks the first such event organized by Asian Boxing with the support of both the Olympic Council of Asia and the newly formed World Boxing body.

The Indian team, along with coaches and officials, departed for Amman on 17 April.

The competition will begin with preliminary rounds on 19 April, following the official draw on 18 April.

Among the notable names in the U-17 boys’ team are Sahil Duhan and Devansh, who earned silver and bronze medals respectively at the 2024 Asian Junior Championship.

Tikam Singh, a gold medalist at the 2024 School Games Federation of India (SGFI), also features in the lineup.

On the girls’ side, Samiksha Singh, Anshika, and Khushi Chand are among the medal winners from the 2024 Asian School Boys & Girls Boxing Championships held in Al Ain, UAE.

The U-15 contingent, however, includes Ravi Sihag, a bronze medalist in the 2024 Asian School Boys Championship, and Trushna Mohite, the reigning sub-junior national champion in the 64–67 kg category.

These young boxers represent India’s rising talent pool, as the nation continues to build toward a strong showing at the 2036 Olympic Games.

The Interim Committee overseeing boxing in India has, however, stayed aligned with the values of the Boxing Federation of India.

It played a key role in overcoming administrative hurdles to confirm India’s participation in this important championship.

Previously, the World Boxing-led Interim Committee introduced key reforms to rebuild the sport’s grassroots framework and improve India’s international performance.
