India Cancels Intra-Squad Match At WACA Ahead Of Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Indian cricket team has cancelled its planned three-day intra-squad game against India A, which was set to take place at the WACA from November 15-17 ahead of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, according to reports. Instead, the team will focus on net sessions and match simulations at the WACA.

This change means India’s tour of Australia will officially begin with the first Test at Perth Stadium on November 22. In previous successful tours, including the 2018/19 and 2020/21 series, India warmed up with tour games before clinching 2-1 series victories.

India’s Test squad, led by Rohit Sharma, will depart for Australia around November 10 after concluding their final Test against New Zealand in Mumbai on November 5. Meanwhile, India A, captained by Ruturaj Gaikwad, is currently competing in a four-day match against Australia A in Mackay, with another match scheduled at the MCG.

The 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy marks the first five-match Test series between India and Australia since 1991/92. The series, running from November 22 to January 7, will include matches in Perth, Adelaide (a pink-ball Test), Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney. Victory in this series is crucial for India to secure a spot in the 2025 World Test Championship final, especially after losing the 2021 series to New Zealand at home.
