With KS Bharat donning the wicketkeeping gloves for Rohit Sharma’s Team India in Hyderabad, Rahul was included in the Indian XI as a key batter for the series opener. Rahul made a solid contribution, scoring 86 off 123 balls in the 1st Test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. However, the former India vice-captain was sidelined for the 2nd Test due to a quadriceps strain. Subsequently, Rahul was ruled out of the 3rd Test against England after achieving only 90 percent match fitness.

Rahul will continue his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, hosts India are also missing former skipper Virat Kohli for the remainder of the five-match Test series. Despite the absence of Rahul and Kohli in Rajkot, the Indian team displayed their depth of talent by convincingly defeating England. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin reached a milestone, claiming his 500th Test wicket, while youngsters Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel impressed on their debuts for the hosts in Rajkot.
