In a thrilling start to their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup journey, the USA cricket team clinched a confident seven-wicket victory over Canada.
Aaron Jones stole the show with an unbeaten 94 off just 40 balls, guiding his team to a remarkable win.
Canada, electing to bat first, posted a challenging total of 194/5, thanks to Navneet Dhaliwal’s solid 61 off 44 balls and Nicholas Kirton’s quickfire 51 off 31 balls.
However, the USA responded with a stellar batting display, led by Jones and Andries Gous, who contributed a fighting 65 in the ICC T20 World Cup.
Jones’ innings was particularly outstanding, featuring 10 sixes and four fours, reaching his fifty in just 22 balls, the fastest for USA in T20Is. Their partnership of 100 runs put the hosts in firm control.
Despite a brief setback after Gous’ dismissal, Jones continued his onslaught, dismantling the Canadian bowling attack and securing a comfortable victory for his team. With this win, the USA recorded the highest-ever chase in their T20 international history and the third-highest chase in T20 World Cup matches.
Looking ahead, the USA will face Pakistan in their next World Cup matchup on June 6, while Canada aims to bounce back against Ireland on June 7.
