ICC Reveals Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 Fixtures: India Pitted Against Arch-Rivals Pakistan and Defending Champions Australia

The ICC has revealed the schedule for the ninth ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to unfold in Bangladesh from October 3 to 20. Promising to captivate and engage a new wave of fans globally, the event will witness ten teams vying for glory across 23 matches, spanning 18 action-packed days at two venues: the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka and the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

The schedule announcement took place at an event in Dhaka, graced by notable figures such as Mr. Nazmul Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, alongside Geoff Allardice, CEO of the ICC, and the Captains of the Indian and Bangladeshi women’s teams, Harmanpreet Kaur and Nigar Sultana, respectively.

Group A will host six-time champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, and two qualifying teams, with matches unfolding in Sylhet. Meanwhile, Group B will see Bangladesh, England, South Africa, West Indies, and another pair of qualifiers competing in Dhaka.

The tournament’s inauguration will witness Bangladesh locking horns with Qualifier 2 on October 3 in Dhaka, setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling event. The opening clash will see South Africa face England, igniting the competition with anticipation and excitement.

Defending champions Australia will commence their campaign on October 4 against Qualifier 1 in Sylhet, while the much-anticipated clash between arch-rivals India and Pakistan is set for October 6 in Sylhet.

The top two teams from each group will secure spots in the semi-finals, scheduled for October 17 in Sylhet and October 18 in Dhaka. The grand finale will unfold at the Shere Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on October 20.

Teams are divided into two groups, with the top two from each progressing to the semi-finals, ultimately securing their berths in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Preceding the main event, ten warm-up matches will be held from September 27 to October 1 at BKSP in Dhaka.

Expressing excitement about the upcoming tournament, ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice emphasized the significance of bringing an ICC World Cup to Bangladesh, a country with a fervent fan base, while Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin Chaudhary echoed the sentiment, highlighting the event’s potential to elevate women’s cricket locally and globally.

India Captain Harmanpreet Kaur also shared her enthusiasm for the tournament, acknowledging the remarkable growth of women’s cricket and anticipating a fiercely competitive and entertaining spectacle for fans worldwide.
