Former captain Sourav Ganguly recently lent his support to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s potential inclusion in India’s T20I World Cup squad scheduled for June. Despite the duo’s absence from T20Is for approximately 14 months, they’ve expressed their readiness to participate in the shortest format of the game. The decision to include them in the upcoming three-match T20I series against Afghanistan starting on January 11 in Mohali remains pending.
Ganguly emphasized the necessity of Rohit Sharma leading the team in the T20I World Cup and underscored the importance of Virat Kohli’s presence. He praised Kohli’s exceptional talent and expressed confidence in their return to the T20 fold, despite the lengthy hiatus.

The last time Rohit and Kohli appeared in a T20I match was during India’s semifinal defeat against England in the T20I World Cup on November 10.
Ganguly also shared his positive impressions of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s performance in the recent two-Test series in South Africa. Despite the challenging conditions in Centurion and Cape Town, the 22-year-old left-handed batter scored 50 runs in four innings. Ganguly believes that Jaiswal’s career is just beginning and assures him of ample opportunities ahead.
Reflecting on India’s Test series in South Africa, where they faced an innings and 32-run loss at Centurion followed by a seven-wicket victory in Cape Town, Ganguly highlighted the team’s resilience. He dismissed criticisms after the Centurion loss, praising India’s strong performance across formats, including winning the ODI series and drawing both the Test and T20I series against South Africa.
