Gautam Gambhir, the newly appointed head coach of the Indian cricket team, is reportedly advocating for the inclusion of former Dutch cricketer Ryan ten Doeschate in the coaching staff, citing his valuable experience and successful collaboration during their time at Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Ten Doeschate, renowned for his role as KKR’s fielding coach during their triumphant 2024 season, has extended his influence across various cricketing platforms, including the Caribbean Premier League, Major League Cricket, and ILT20 under KKR’s banner.

According to sources from Cricbuzz, Gambhir, known for his assertiveness, has expressed a strong preference for ten Doeschate as a pivotal member of his coaching setup.

However, the final decision rests with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has traditionally favored Indian nationals for coaching roles.

Earlier reports hinted at the potential inclusion of Abhishek Nayar, a former India all-rounder and a crucial figure in KKR’s backroom operations, as Gambhir’s assistant coach.

The ongoing discussions also involve the BCCI’s inclination to retain T Dilip, currently part of Rahul Dravid’s coaching team, as the designated fielding coach, despite Gambhir’s recommendations.

The deliberations highlight Gambhir’s push for international expertise within India’s coaching cadre, underscoring a potential shift in the BCCI’s approach towards integrating global cricketing insights into the national team’s development strategy.
