England advanced to the Women’s T20 World Cup final after defeating South Africa by 40 runs in the second semi-final at The Oval.

Inspired by Nat Sciver-Brunt’s outstanding all-round contribution, the hosts maintained their unbeaten run and will now face Australia in Sunday’s title decider at Lord’s.

The victory also extended England’s remarkable record of never losing a Women’s World Cup, in either the ODI or T20 format, when hosting the tournament.

South Africa seized the early momentum after opting to field, with Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp reducing England to 23/3 within the opening four overs.

Ismail removed Amy Jones and Alice Capsey, while Kapp accounted for Danni Wyatt-Hodge. During the spell, Ismail also became the first bowler to claim 50 wickets in Women’s T20 World Cup history.

Facing early pressure, England rebuilt their innings through an exceptional 133-run stand between Nat Sciver-Brunt and captain Heather Knight, the highest partnership ever recorded in a Women’s T20 World Cup knockout fixture.

Sciver-Brunt compiled a fluent 75, striking 11 fours and a six to register her eighth tournament half-century and equal the competition record jointly held by Suzie Bates and Beth Mooney. Knight added a valuable 58 before Nonkululeko Mlaba dismissed both batters late in the innings, limiting England to 169/5.

South Africa’s Chase Loses Momentum

South Africa began positively as Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits added 43 runs for the opening wicket. However, England’s bowlers steadily tightened their grip after Sophie Ecclestone, Linsey Smith and Freya Kemp removed key batters, leaving the visitors under increasing pressure.

Brits kept South Africa’s hopes alive with a fighting 51 but departed immediately after reaching her half-century. Her dismissal effectively ended the chase as England wrapped up the innings at 129/8.

Lauren Bell and Charlie Dean finished with two wickets each, while Ecclestone, Smith and Kemp claimed one apiece to complete a comprehensive team performance.
