In a heart-stopping finale at Lord’s, England defeated India by 22 runs in the 3rd Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, taking a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

The match, which spanned five riveting days, saw Ravindra Jadeja’s valiant unbeaten 61 off 181 balls nearly pull off a miracle for India.

England strike early, Jadeja stands firm

Resuming at 58/4, India faced relentless pressure from England’s pace attack. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer led the charge with three wickets each, supported by Brydon Carse’s two, while Chris Woakes and a heavily strapped Shoaib Bashir took one apiece.

India slumped to eight down by lunch but Jadeja refused to yield, battling through the afternoon session with skill and grit. Jadeja’s defiance, aided by India’s lower order, brought the visitors close.

As tension peaked in the final session, he and Mohammed Siraj pushed for every run. But in the 75th over, Bashir’s delivery clipped Siraj’s bat and rolled onto the stumps, ending India’s chase at 170 in 74.5 overs.

Historic win on memorable date for England

England’s victory came on the sixth anniversary of their ODI World Cup triumph at the same venue, adding emotional weight to the triumph.

The Test was evenly poised after both teams posted 387 in the first innings, but England’s 192 in the second innings proved just enough thanks to their disciplined bowling.

The Lord’s crowd erupted in celebration, while the Indian camp stood stunned in disbelief. England’s resilience, patience, and relentless pace attack ensured a dramatic finish to one of the most thrilling Tests in recent memory.

Brief scores:

England 387 and 192 beat India 387 and 170 all out in 74.5 overs (Ravindra Jadeja 61 not out, KL Rahul 39; Ben Stokes 3-48, Jofra Archer 3-55) by 22 runs.
