Royal Challengers Bangalore star batter Virat Kohli
Indian cricket team star batsman Virat Kohli received a warm welcome from fans during the RCB Unbox event at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. Kohli, a longstanding member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise since the inaugural IPL season in 2008, has been affectionately dubbed ‘King Kohli’ by supporters. However, during the event, Kohli expressed discomfort with the moniker and requested fans to address him simply as Virat. He recounted a conversation with fellow player Faf du Plessis about feeling embarrassed by the title.
“We need to get to Chennai pretty quickly tonight. We have a charter flight, so we don’t have much time,” Kohli mentioned.
“Firstly, you need to stop calling me that word (King). Please call me Virat. Don’t call me that word (king), I was just telling Faf du Plessis that I feel embarrassed every year when you call me that word. So just call me Virat, please, from now on, don’t use that word, it’s very embarrassing for me,” Kohli stated.

Kohli expressed hope to replicate the success of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru women’s team, who recently won the Women’s Premier League. He aimed to add the IPL trophy to the team’s accolades in the upcoming season, starting from March 22.
“It was amazing. When they won it (WPL), we were watching. Hopefully, we can double it up with the trophies and that will be something truly special,” Kohli remarked during the RCB Unbox event.

As he embarks on his 17th season with RCB in IPL 2024, Kohli pledged to utilize his skills and experience to pursue the dream of clinching the IPL trophy.
“That’s a dream of mine to know what it feels like to win an IPL trophy. I will be here, be a part of the team that wins the trophy for the first time. “I will try my very best with my abilities, my experience to be able to do that for the fans and the franchise,” said the former RCB captain.
