India was shocked by the hosts in Trinidad and Tobago to open the five-match T20I series against the West Indies. India ended up falling four runs short of the objective, while the West Indies were held to a total of 149/6. Thus, the West Indies now lead the series 1-0.
India loses the first T-20 against the West Indies.
After the game, India captain Hardik Pandya praised the team’s bowling performance and claimed that the team may have lost the game due to a cluster of wicket losses in the middle overs. With Pandya and Sanju Samson in the middle, India only needed 37 runs to win in the final five overs. But in the 16th over, former West Indies captain Jason Holder decisively shifted the match in his team’s favor. With his first delivery, he dismissed Pandya, and Kyle Mayers’ quick fielding play enabled Samson to be run out on the third. India never fully recovered from the blows they suffered in that over, since Holder bowled a maiden in the final over.
What has Captain Hardik Pandya had to say?
Pandya added that the two players who made their T20I debuts gave encouraging performances. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, who also played in his first ODI and first Test during this tour, made his T20I debut as batter Tilak Varma made his international debut.
“Brilliant. First off, Mukesh should be commended for the two weeks he has had here, where he made his debut in each of the three formats. He’s a genuine good guy. He wants to contribute to the squad and has a huge, nice heart. His back-to-back bowling of two overs, which was superb, was praised by Pandya at the post-game awards ceremony.
Tilak looked in good form
It was really encouraging to observe how Tilak began his innings. With a couple of sixes, that wasn’t a bad way to begin your international cricket career. Their self-assurance and fearlessness are obvious. They are going to work wonders for India moving forward, he added.

Mukesh finished with 0/24 in three overs after failing to take a wicket. Tilak, on the other hand, had a strong start to his innings, blasting two sixes off the second and third balls he faced. After making 39 off 22 balls, he eventually lost to fast bowler Romario Shepherd. Tilak was also essential to India’s cause on the battlefield. He took a screaming catch off the bowling of spinner Kuldeep
Yadav to get rid of the dangerous Jason Charles. Nicholas Pooran, who had scored 41 points off of 34, was then significantly sent back by Tilak off of Pandya’s bowling.
