Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday congratulated Dilip Mahadu Gavit, Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath and Murali Sreeshankar for their medal-winning performances at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, praising their achievements and contribution to India’s athletics campaign.

Congratulating Dilip Mahadu Gavit, Prime Minister Modi described his performance as phenomenal after the para-athlete won gold in the men’s 100m T47 event with a Games record and season-best timing. He said Gavit’s speed, determination and dedication had made the nation proud and wished him continued success.

The Prime Minister also lauded Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath for securing silver in the same event. He described the sprint as a superb display of determination, said the medal reflected Basil’s hard work and focus, and expressed confidence that he would continue to scale new heights.

Praising Murali Sreeshankar, PM Modi called his silver-medal performance in the men’s long jump exceptional. He said Sreeshankar’s achievement and best leap would inspire young athletes to pursue excellence and wished him success in future competitions.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated Gavit and Basil, describing their gold and silver medals as a ‘Double Victory for India’. He said their speed and sportsmanship had filled every Indian with pride and joy and wished both athletes continued success.

Shah also praised Sreeshankar for winning silver in the men’s long jump, saying his determination and remarkable performance had brought pride to the nation and urging him to keep up his winning spirit.

Gavit clinched gold in the men’s 100m T47 with a Games record of 10.71 seconds, while Basil secured silver to complete a historic Indian one-two finish. Sreeshankar added another silver in the men’s long jump, marking his second consecutive Commonwealth Games silver after Birmingham 2022.
