Cristiano Ronaldo Creates World Cup History As Portugal Thrash Uzbekistan

Cristiano Ronaldo emphatically answered his critics by inspiring Portugal to a commanding victory over Uzbekistan in their second match of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Questions had emerged following Portugal’s goalless opening fixture against DR Congo, where the experienced striker failed to make an impact on the scoresheet.

Ronaldo quickly silenced those concerns with a clinical display in Houston.

The Portuguese star broke the deadlock after only six minutes, converting a precise delivery from João Cancelo to put his side ahead.

Ronaldo added a second goal before the interval, finding the net again in the 39th minute and strengthening Portugal’s grip on the contest. His opening strike secured a place in football history, making him the first player ever to score in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments spanning two decades.

The goal also elevated Ronaldo to second place on the list of the oldest World Cup scorers.

At 41 years and 138 days, he trails only Cameroon icon Roger Milla, who achieved the feat during the 1994 tournament.

Portugal controlled proceedings from start to finish and rarely allowed Uzbekistan an opportunity to threaten.

Nuno Mendes extended the lead in the 17th minute, while an own goal from Azizbek Nematov further increased Portugal’s advantage after the break.

Rafael Leão completed the rout late in the match as Portugal secured an impressive five-goal victory.

Two decades after his first World Cup appearance, Ronaldo continues to set new benchmarks in international football.

The veteran forward transformed criticism into motivation, delivering a performance that highlighted his enduring quality and competitive spirit.

With another record added to his remarkable résumé, Ronaldo once again demonstrated why he remains one of the sport’s most influential figures.
