Delhi-NCR Monsoon Update: IMD Says Rains May Arrive Around June 27

The southwest monsoon is moving steadily towards Delhi-NCR and could reach the region around its usual arrival date of June 27.

The anticipated change in weather will bring relief from the heat and humidity that have affected the National Capital Region in recent weeks.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon remains active over eastern India after spreading across Bihar earlier this month.

Rainfall activity has remained consistent in the region, with further showers forecast in several areas.

Weather officials have predicted widespread rainfall across parts of eastern, northeastern, and western India.

Heavy to very heavy showers are likely in regions including Konkan and Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Assam, Meghalaya, and parts of West Bengal and Sikkim.

The monsoon has also expanded into additional areas of Maharashtra, Telangana, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand. Its recent arrival in Mumbai marked another important stage in the seasonal weather system’s progress across the country.

Although the monsoon is approaching, forecasters have cautioned that its arrival in Delhi could be marginally delayed.

The eventual onset will depend on wind patterns, moisture levels, and prevailing atmospheric conditions over northwest India.

On Tuesday, residents across Delhi-NCR experienced dramatic weather conditions as powerful dust storms and strong winds swept through the region.

The IMD issued a Red Alert, warning of thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and intense wind speeds in isolated locations.

Dense dust clouds reduced visibility in several areas. The conditions disrupted daily activities. They also affected road conditions across parts of the capital and neighbouring districts.

Meteorologists stated that the recent storm activity developed due to atmospheric instability created by sustained high temperatures.

While the storms brought temporary respite from the heat, residents continue to await the season’s first widespread monsoon rainfall.

Weather conditions currently remain favourable. Forecasters expect the monsoon to move closer to Delhi-NCR in the coming days. Its arrival could bring lasting relief from the summer heat and mark the beginning of the rainy season in the region.
