India captain Jasprit Bumrah delivered a sensational spell to take four wickets, leaving Australia at 67/7 at stumps on day one of the first Test at Perth Stadium. Bumrah’s 4-17, backed by Mohammed Siraj and debutant Harshit Rana, helped India seize the momentum after being bowled out for 150 earlier in the day.
Bumrah showcased his brilliance by mixing pace and accuracy with precision. He trapped debutant Nathan McSweeney lbw to open his account. In the seventh over, he struck twice, dismissing Usman Khawaja and Steve Smith with back-to-back deliveries. Bumrah returned later to send Pat Cummins back, completing his four-wicket haul.
Siraj added to the chaos with two scalps, including the prized wicket of Marnus Labuschagne, who struggled to score. Harshit Rana dismissed Travis Head with a stunning delivery on debut.
Josh Hazlewood earlier starred for Australia with 4-29, helping bowl India out for 150. Nitish Kumar Reddy’s 41 and Rishabh Pant’s 37 were the only notable contributions for the visitors.
The day saw 17 wickets fall, all to fast bowlers, marking a rare occurrence last seen in 1952. With Alex Carey (19*) and Mitchell Starc (6*) still at the crease, Australia trails by 83 runs. Day two promises more drama in this gripping Border-Gavaskar Trophy opener.
