England wrapped up the three-match ODI series 2-1 with a 27-run victory over India in the deciding match at Lord’s.
Ben Duckett laid the foundation for the win with a superb 141 as England amassed 387/3 before defending the imposing total successfully.
England produced an outstanding batting performance after choosing to bat first.
Duckett anchored the innings with a fluent 141 and shared a 192-run opening partnership with Jacob Bethell, who narrowly missed a century after making 91.
Joe Root continued his remarkable form with another half-century before Jos Buttler smashed an unbeaten 41 from just 13 deliveries to propel England to their highest-ever List A total at Lord’s.
Bethell followed up his batting display with an influential spell of left-arm spin, removing Rohit Sharma at a crucial stage after conceding only 49 runs from seven overs.
Sam Curran then tightened England’s grip by claiming four wickets with clever variations in pace, finishing with impressive figures of 4/75.
India made a confident start through Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, whose 147-run opening stand kept the chase firmly on course.
Gill contributed 77 before Rohit produced a scintillating 138, becoming the first Indian batter to register an ODI century at Lord’s.
Virat Kohli added an aggressive 74, but England struck regularly in the closing overs to deny India a successful chase.
India’s bowling unit struggled to contain England’s powerful batting line-up, particularly during the closing overs, as the hosts accelerated brilliantly to post a daunting target.
Although India’s batters mounted a determined reply, England executed their plans effectively in the final stages to seal victory and secure the series.
