The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced it will advance the recommendations of all ten Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise owners to the tournament’s governing council before finalizing player regulations for the IPL 2025 season. This follows a comprehensive meeting held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai on Wednesday evening.
During the meeting, attended by key stakeholders from each franchise, discussions centered around various aspects of the IPL, including the possibility of a mega auction, player retention strategies, and the Impact Player rule. The session aimed to address several significant issues that could shape the future of the tournament.

Jay Shah On IPL 2025
BCCI Secretary Jay Shah stated, “The Board of Control for Cricket in India organized a constructive dialogue with the owners of the 10 franchises on various subjects pertaining to the upcoming season of the TATA IPL. The franchise owners provided valuable feedback on player regulations and other commercial aspects, including central merchandising, licensing, and gaming. We will now present these recommendations to the IPL Governing Council for further deliberation and evaluation before finalizing the player regulations for IPL 2025.”
Parth Jindal, co-owner of Delhi Capitals, highlighted a notable debate regarding the potential for a mega auction, with his franchise expressing support for its implementation. Jindal also mentioned internal division over the continuation of the Impact Player rule, with his franchise opposing it due to concerns about its impact on the development of genuine all-rounders in Indian cricket.
Jindal added that the BCCI plans to respond to all team owners by August regarding decisions on the mega auction, player retentions, and other related matters.
The meeting saw participation from a range of IPL franchise owners and representatives, including Kiran Kumar Grandhi (Delhi Capitals), Sanjiv Goenka (Lucknow Super Giants), Rupa Gurunath (Chennai Super Kings), Kavya Maran (Sunrisers Hyderabad), Shah Rukh Khan (Kolkata Knight Riders), and Ness Wadia (Punjab Kings). Rajasthan Royals were represented by co-owner Manoj Badale, CEO Jake Luck McCrum, and Executive Chairman Ranjit Barthakur. Amit Soni (Gujarat Titans) and Prathmesh Mishra (Royal Challengers Bangalore) also attended, while some owners, including the Ambani family of Mumbai Indians, joined via video conference.
