Following India’s disappointing Test cricket performances, including a 0-3 home loss to New Zealand and a 1-3 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, the BCCI has taken strict measures to address the situation. The board has decided to limit players’ wives and families from accompanying them on tours to ensure better focus and performance.
The decision emerged during a review meeting on Saturday in Mumbai, attended by BCCI officials, head coach Gautam Gambhir, chief selector Ajit Agarkar, and captain Rohit Sharma.
The BCCI reinstated an earlier rule, suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic, restricting family presence during tours. Under the new guidelines:
For series or tournaments exceeding 45 days, family members can stay with players for a maximum of 14 days.
For shorter tours, the limit is reduced to seven days.
Officials argue that family presence, particularly during overseas assignments, can distract players and adversely affect their performance.
Mandatory Team Travel
The board also introduced a rule requiring players to travel with the team at all times. This measure addresses concerns over players traveling separately in recent years, which the BCCI believes disrupts team cohesion and discipline.
These steps aim to rebuild team focus and performance as India seeks to recover from recent setbacks in Test cricket.
