Bangladesh national cricket team advanced past India national cricket team in the ICC World Test Championship rankings following a 78-run success over Pakistan national cricket team in the second Test held in Sylhet.

The result secured a 2-0 series win for Bangladesh, with the hosts finishing the match early on the final day by dismissing Pakistan’s remaining batters.

Following the victory, Bangladesh climbed to fifth position in the WTC 2027 table with a win percentage of 58.33.

India dropped to sixth with 48.15 points from nine matches, comprising four wins, four defeats, and one draw. Pakistan continued to remain in eighth place after the loss.

India national cricket team have not yet played a Test match this year and will next face the Afghanistan national cricket team in a standalone fixture that is not part of the WTC cycle.

Pakistan resumed the final day at 316/7 while chasing a target of 437. The team added only 42 more runs before getting bowled out for 358 in 97.2 overs.

Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan top-scored with a resilient 94 from 166 balls, striking 10 boundaries.

Although Pakistan remained hopeful of achieving a record chase, they lost their last three wickets without increasing the total beyond 358. Sajid Khan added 28 runs with five boundaries during his innings.

Spinner Taijul Islam played a decisive role in the match. He picked up six wickets, including two crucial dismissals on the final morning.

Shoriful Islam also made an important contribution by dismissing Rizwan for 94, which shifted momentum firmly towards Bangladesh.

This series win marked Bangladesh’s first Test series victory at home against Pakistan. It also became their second consecutive 2-0 triumph over the same opposition following their success in Pakistan in 2024.

The emphatic series result enhances Bangladesh’s standing in the WTC race and provides strong momentum heading into future matches. It also adds further intensity to the competition for qualification to the championship final.
