Bangladesh took control of the first Test against India, dismissing key players Rishabh Pant, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and KL Rahul in quick succession. By tea on day one, India had managed to score 176 runs for the loss of six wickets in 48 overs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Despite Jaiswal’s commendable fifth Test fifty and an unbeaten 21 from Ravichandran Ashwin, India struggled to maintain their momentum. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, who remained not out on seven, added 32 runs for the seventh wicket, attempting to stabilize the innings.
The Indian innings faltered shortly after lunch when Pant, who started confidently with a cut for four runs, attempted another cut off Mahmud but mistimed it, edging the ball to the keeper and getting dismissed for 39 runs off 52 balls.

Jaiswal, looking solid at the crease, reached his fifty in 95 balls. However, Nahid Rana dismissed him at 56 runs off 118 balls, taking advantage of Jaiswal’s thick outside edge, which the fielder caught at first slip.
In the next over, Rahul fell victim to a leg glance, caught by short leg off the bowling of Mehidy Hasan Miraz for just 16 runs off 52 balls. Ashwin, greeted warmly by a sparse crowd at Chepauk, showcased his attacking style with an array of shots, including a delightful punch and pull for boundaries.
As India aims to recover, fans are hopeful that Ashwin and Jadeja can forge a crucial partnership to build a competitive total.
