Australia have brought several established players back into their ODI set-up as they step up preparations for the 2027 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
The reigning champions will open their six-match campaign against Zimbabwe with three ODIs in Harare from September 15 before travelling to South Africa for another three games.
The upcoming fixtures will allow Australia to assess their players in conditions similar to those they will encounter at the 2027 World Cup.
Mitchell Marsh will resume his role as captain after missing Australia’s previous ODI assignments in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Travis Head will return to the top order after sitting out those campaigns.
Josh Hazlewood has earned a recall, while Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will be included in the squad for the South African leg of the tour.
Cummins and Starc will feature in South Africa before Australia begin their World Test Championship series against the Proteas in October.
Selectors have omitted Marnus Labuschagne after an inconsistent spell across international formats.
Australia have, meanwhile, continued to back emerging talents Joel Davies and Ollie Peake after the youngsters impressed during earlier ODI opportunities.
Selection chief George Bailey described the six-match programme as an important stage in Australia’s build-up to next year’s World Cup.
Bailey welcomed the return of Marsh, Head and Hazlewood and said their experience would provide a strong foundation for the squad.
Australia will play Zimbabwe in Harare on September 15, September 18 and September 20.
The side will then face South Africa in Durban on September 24, Johannesburg on September 27 and Potchefstroom on September 30.
Australia’s squad comprises Mitchell Marsh, Pat Cummins, Xavier Bartlett, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Joel Davies, Nathan Ellis, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Spencer Johnson, Oliver Peake, Matthew Renshaw, Billy Stanlake, Mitchell Starc and Adam Zampa.
