India’s men’s recurve team stunned Korea in the final to claim the gold medal at the Asian Archery Championships on Friday. India won the men’s recurve team gold for the first time since 2007 and ended Korea’s unbeaten streak since 2013.
The Indian trio: Yashdeep Sanjay Bhoge, Atanu Das, and Rahul triumphed 5-4 in a shoot-off.
Both teams scored 29 in the tiebreaker. Rahul’s arrow landed closest to the centre, securing the historic win.
In the recurve mixed team event, Anshika Kumari and Yashdeep narrowly missed out on bronze. They lost to Korea’s Jang Minhee and Seo Mingi.
Five-time Olympian Deepika Kumari and Ankita Bhakat advanced to the women’s individual semifinals. Sangeeta was prepared to face Paris Olympic silver medallist Nam Suhyeon.
India Dominates Archery Finals
In the men’s individual event, Dhiraj Bommadevara will take on Korea’s Jang Chaehwan, and Rahul will compete against Seo Mingi.
On Thursday, India’s compound archers concluded their campaign with five medals.
The women’s final featured an all-Indian clash. Reigning Asian Games champion Jyothi Surekha Vennam claimed her third individual gold at the Asian Championships.
Vennam scored a near-perfect 149 in the semifinals against Chinese Taipei’s Chen Si-yu. She defeated 17-year-old compatriot Prithika Pradeep 147-145 to win the final.
Vennam, Prithika, and Deepshikha secured the compound women’s team gold by defeating Korea’s Oh Yoohyun, Park Yerin, and Park Jungyoon.
In the men’s compound team event, world No. 10 Abhishek Verma led a squad with Sahil Rajesh Jadhav and Prathamesh Bhalchandra Fuge.
They finished second after a narrow 229-230 loss to Kazakhstan.

The championship showcased India’s strength across recurve and compound categories. It highlighted both seasoned Olympians and rising young archers delivering historic performances.
