Even before it began, the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 was surrounded by much drama and controversy. Finally, the hybrid approach suggested by the ACC has received approval from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Six teams will compete in the mega-event known as the Asia Cup 2023, which is planned to begin on August 31. The Continental Cup will be co-hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Akmal vs. Gambhir

In the fourth game of the 2010 Asia Cup in Dambulla, former India opener Gautam Gambhir and Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal got into a heated argument. Off Saeed Ajmal, Gambhir was caught in the rear. Gambhir and Akmal, though, got into a fight before leaving, and insults were hurled. MS Dhoni, the captain, had to step in to break up the brawl.

Shakib chastised

Shakib al Hasan, a talented all-rounder for Bangladesh, broke his stumps after being bowled by Mohammad Amir of Pakistan during the 2016 Asian Cup. The ICC censured Shakib for the incident.

Akhtar vs. Bhajji

During a tense match between the bitter rivals in 2001, former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar and former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh squared off. Toward the end of the game, Akhtar insulted Bhajji. In retaliation, Bhajji smashed Mohammad Amir’s winning runs in the final over.

Taskin vs. Dhoni

Before the Asia Cup 2016 final, a photo of Bangladesh pacer Taskin Ahmed carrying the severed head of the previous India captain, MS Dhoni, went viral on social media. A number of Indian cricketers and fans responded angrily to the incident.

PCB vs. BCCI

In a dispute over hosting the Asia Cup in 2023, the PCB and the Indian Cricket Board BCCI were at odds. Pakistan’s sports minister also stated that the country’s team would want to play its forthcoming.
