The 2026 Commonwealth Games concluded with a spectacular closing ceremony at Glasgow’s OVO Hydro, where India captivated the audience with a vibrant cultural showcase as Ahmedabad officially took over as host of the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
The ceremony marked the end of 11 days of sporting competition while ushering in a new chapter for the Commonwealth movement.
As the sounds of Vande Mataram, the Shiv Strot and Suno Gaur Se Duniya Walo filled the arena, thousands of spectators rose to their feet.
Indian supporters waved the Tricolour, sang along and celebrated enthusiastically, while many international spectators joined in, creating a memorable atmosphere as the Commonwealth Games baton passed from Scotland to India.
The ceremony opened with a vibrant celebration of Scottish culture before Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi received the Commonwealth Games flag on behalf of Ahmedabad, officially launching the city’s journey to host the centenary Games in 2030.
India then presented an 18-minute-and-27-second cultural performance celebrating its heritage, sporting achievements and vision for the future.
The showcase opened with the message, ‘India, where sport is a way of life’, and celebrated the nation’s diversity, unity and sporting heritage. It honoured the 150th anniversary of Vande Mataram, showcased India’s Commonwealth journey and featured a musical collaboration between Rishab Sharma and Scottish artist Ross Ainslie.
The finale saw electrifying performances by Shankar Mahadevan, Rishab Sharma and Bhoomi Trivedi, offering a vibrant preview of Ahmedabad 2030.
Boxer Jaismine Lamboria carried the Tricolour during the Parade of Athletes before the Commonwealth Games flag was formally handed over to Ahmedabad, which will host the centenary Games in 2030, making India only the second nation after Australia to host the event twice.
